SYSGO is a prominent force in Europe's embedded sector and has harnessed its technical expertise in the form of PikeOS.
PikeOS is a real-time operating system which enables multiple OSs to operate simultaneously on a single CPU (multi-core capability is also available). In the past, changing your OS inevitably meant not being able to use a great deal of your previous software assets. This has been a significant disadvantage, especially when you consider productivity issues and the need to maintain product quality within a limited development period. However, all OSs have their own idiosyncratic benefits and shortcomings and some are even made obsolete as a result of advances in technology. PikeOS is employed in a vast array of fields, partly because it allows users to continue using their previous software while also adding functions under a new OS with minimal risk.
Modern vehicles are equipped with more than 100 electronic control units (ECUs). Normally, an attempt at integration would require all of of those with different OSs and all of those which don't rely on OSs to be integrated into a single ECU. PikeOS has effectively solved this problem.
It is also used to enable the addition of Blue-Ray disks functionality on Linux to HDD players which run on µiTRON. |
